Turkish Weaving Art Event Held with the Participation of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Genç
The "Turkish Weaving Art" event, organized in collaboration with the Yunus Emre Institute and alaturka e.V., commenced on Monday, June 22, with a conference program and the opening of our exhibition, graced by the presence of our Berlin Consul General, Mr. İlker Okan Şanlı.
Delivering the opening speech, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Genç, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Süleyman Demirel University, addressed Turkish weaving art within a historical and artistic framework. He defined the practice of rug weaving not merely as a technical production, but as a "language of communication" shaped by geographical conditions, preserving collective memory and human emotions within its stitches.
As emphasized by Prof. Dr. Genç, the rug is a response given with intelligence and aesthetics to the challenges of geography, and an ancient life practice passed down through generations. The inseparable bond between the technical depth of weaving and its function of cultural transmission once again revealed the living and transformative power of art.
Parallel to the exhibition, an intensive weaving workshop was held over four days with high participation and was successfully completed. The entire event process attracted great interest from art enthusiasts.
